Job Summary: 

Under the supervision of the Learn to Sail Coordinator, the CANSail Instructors plans, organizes and delivers sailing classes, demonstrating and instructing sailing activities and techniques. S/he assembles supplies and equipment, as required and attends to clients with special needs. S/he also prepares class schedules and records, monitors and reports program attendance.

 

Qualifications:

CANSail 1&2

  • High school diploma AND some years of experience conducting sailing instruction classes
  • OR
  • An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience will be considered
  • AND
  • Current Sail Canada CANSail 1&2 Instructor level or White Sail Coach Certificate/CANSail 1&2 Instructor certification or higher
  • Current CANSail 4 equivalent
  • Current Sail Canada Coach Boat Safety or equivalent
  • Current Pleasure Craft Operators Card
  • Current VHF Operators Card
  • Completion of NCCP Making Ethical Decisions (MED) evaluation
  • Completion of CANSail Fundamentals Course
  • Current CPR and Emergency First Aid qualifications
  • Proof of annual CANSail Instructor registration
  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age

 

CANSail 3&4

  • High school diploma AND some years of experience conducting sailing instruction classes
  • OR
  • An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience will be considered
  • AND

 

  • Current Sail Canada CANSail 3&4 Instructor certificate or Bronze Sail Coach Certificate with CANSail online module completed (CANSail 4 equivalent)
  • Current Sail Canada Coach Boat Safety or equivalent
  • Current Pleasure Craft Operators Card
  • Current VHF Operators Card
  • Completion of NCCP Making Ethical Decisions (MED) evaluation
  • Completion of CANSail Fundamentals Course
  • Current CPR and Emergency First Aid qualifications
  • Proof of annual CANSail Instructor registration
  • Must be a minimum of 17 years of age

 

Language requirement:  English Essential

 

Experience Requirements:

CANSail 1&2

  • In planning, organizing, and delivering sailing classes
  • In monitoring and controlling large groups of participants
  • In ensuring safety protocols and procedures
  • In using software for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, e-mail and Internet browsing

 

CANSail 3&4

  • Of instructional techniques
  • Of group dynamics
  • Of health and safety practices
  • Of injury prevention

 

Salary:  CANSail 1&2 $13.87/hr – $19.62/hr CANSail 3&4 $15.09/hr – $20.65/hr
