The JOB: Sailing Instructor or Assistant with the Disabled Sailing Association of BC at the Kelowna Yacht
For true SAILORS and people who love to be on the water! The Okanagan Branch of the Disabled Sailing
Association of British Columbia is offering full time summer employment for sailing instructors or
assistants to work with some very special people in beautiful Kelowna, BC. You will spend the majority
of your time actually SAILING with people, rather than being in a motorized coach boat. We work mostly
one on one with people with various challenges including visual impairments and other physical
challenges as well as some cognitive challenges. We offer our sailors instruction, companionship and
racing opportunities. Our program utilizes a fleet of 3 Martin 16 sailboats, a Hobie trimaran and a 23’
Sonar sailboat as well a motorized coach boat.
We would like you to have:*
Standard First Aid
VHF Radio license
Sail Canada (or CYA) instructor/coach certification
lots of sailing experience
previous work or volunteer experience with disabled people and/or seniors
power boat experience
*We will also consider applicants with sailing experience who might not have their instructor’s or other
certifications. We will give PREFERENCE to a qualified candidate with a DISABILITY. We will also give
preference to applicants who were full time students and will be returning to school in the fall.
Start Date: negotiable – between April 30th and July 3rd
End Date: negotiable – prior to Labour Day
