Assistant Instructor – Disabled Sailing Association Victoria

Do you love being on the water in beautiful British Columbia? Do you get joy from helping others and teaching people how to sail? Have a positive attitude and love being around people? DSA Victoria offers sailing lessons and outings to people with all types of disabilities of all ages. Join our team for the 2019 season and share your love of sailing with others! No prior experience working with people with disabilities necessary – we provide the training.

About Us
Our sailing program offers recreational and instructional (CANSail) sailing, and competitive Learn to Race and weekly racing opportunities. Sailing is conducted in groups or on a one to one basis. Our boats are designed so they do not capsize.

Wage: $16.46 + 4% for holiday pay and MERCs
Employment Contract: Full-time for 12 weeks, June 17 – Aug 30
(with possibility of early June start)
Requirements: Certified CANSail 1 and 2 instructor certificate, PCOC, Standard 1st Aid/CPR C
Candidates must meet the Canada Summer Jobs
Grant Eligibility: Youth Aged 15 – 30 Years

You will be:
• Following the instruction of the Head Instructor
• Working with children and adults with disabilities.
• Conducting recreation sails, learn to race sails, and race nights.
• Conducting sailing lessons and outings.
• Ensuring the safety of sailors and volunteers during sails.
• Ensuring the care and maintenance of the boats and equipment within the fleet.
• Working with the sailor’s strengths and abilities to help each person succeed in reaching
their goals.
• Working with the sailor’s strengths and abilities to help each person succeed in reaching

• Assisting with DSA Victoria special events and activities.
• Perform additional duties as requested.
Skills and Experience:
• Sailing and teaching experience.
• Working experience and/or knowledge related to working with children and/or adults
with disabilities is preferred
• Strong oral and written communication

You Possess:
• CANSail 1-2 instructor certificate
• Current Standard 1st Aid/CPR-C
• PCOC
• Coach Boat Safety Course
• VHF license is an asset.
