Salt Spring Island Sailing School Instructors

The Salt Spring Island Sailing School is looking to hire Instructors for the coming summer CanSail program.  The instructor will report to the Head Instructor or Senior Instructor as appropriate. The Instructors primary job is to provide quality instruction for the school classes.  In matters of safety, urgency or conflict of interest, the instructors may communicate directly to the School Coordinator or Fleet Captain Dinghy. The Instructors will be appropriately rated, licensed and insured to provide instruction and operate all boats required.  They will follow all safety procedures and protocol. The Instructor will cooperate with the Head Instructor to facilitate the safe and efficient operation of classes. Instructors need to be able to work on their own or as a member of a team. Motivated, enthusiastic and ready to take initiative are characteristics we are looking for.

 

Duration of this position:

 

Classes start on July 1, 2019 and run through to August 30, 2019.  Prior to the start and after the last day instructors maybe requested to come in for additional work or training.  There is a strong possibility house can be arranged for any off island applicants.

 

Hours of operation:

 

Classes run between 8:00 am – 3:30 pm with a lunch break.  Instructors are required to be at the Salt Spring Sailing Club by 7:30 am and leave once all the students have been picked up at the end of the day.  Usually by 4:00 pm.

 

Qualifications required:

 

16 years of age or older

A very strong ability and understanding of sailing

  • Optis
  • 420s
  • Lasers (optional)

Wet Feet

CanSail Fundamental

CanSail ½ & ¾ Technical

Wage :

 

The starting wage for this position is $13.50/hr but can be adjusted depend on the experience and qualifications of the applicant.
