CanSail Level1&2 and 3 & 4 Instructor – Pender Island

 Level 1 & 2 and  Level 3 & 4 Instructors Required for one week or multiple weeks

 July 15-19, July 29- Aug 2, Aug 5-9, Aug 19-23

 Pender Island Junior Sailing Association (PIJSA)

 PIJSA is offering CanSail Level 3 & 4 courses (5-day) for the weeks of July 15-19, July 29 – Aug 2, Aug 5-9, Aug 19-24, and for which instructors are needed.  The courses run from 9 am- 3.30 pm concurrently with CanSail Level 1 & 2 for which an instructor is needed for Aug 19-23.

The Level 3 & 4 courses have a maximum of 10 students who are 12y or older.  The equipment includes 2 Bytes, 5 Laser 1s, and 3 Laser 2s. The Level 1 & 2 has a maximum of 15 students, and uses Pirate-class boats. The sailing is from Hamilton Beach, a pebble beach, at Port Browning. PIJSA has use of the facilities of the nearby Port Browning Pub and Marina.

If, PIJSA cannot get certified Level 3 & 4 Instructor(s), a course in “advanced” sailing, but not certifiable, shall be offered using a Level 1 & 2 instructor(s) if they are available.

Current remuneration is $700/week with some of the following:

  1. Room and board Monday to Thursday probably at a Board member’s house.
  2. Cost of passenger ferry fare, weekly or daily. PIJSA can adjust to daily ferry commute from Swartz Bay; arrive at about 9.15 am; leave at about 3 pm

iii. Camping at the Port Browning Pub and Marina Campsite.

PIJSA ensures that 3 Directors and 2 volunteers are present each day to help manage the program and provide safety back-up.  The instructors are solely responsible for the teaching and evaluation.
