Sailing Coach and Sailing Instructors-Glenmore Sailing Club

Each year we hire Sailing Instructors and Coaches to be part of the largest sailing club and youth team in Alberta. The Club provides access to affordable sailing Education, Recreation, Social Events and Racing programs for everyone.

Among the most important qualities we look for in our instructors and coaches is the ability to instill a love and joy for sailing in those you are teaching and coaching.

The scope of coaching and instruction may include:
• Youth Summer Sailing Camps instruction (various CANSail levels) including lesson plan creation and completing sailor evaluations
• Scouts and Girl Guide Youth Sailing programs
• Adult Learn to Sail courses
• Youth Race Team coaching
• Instruction and Coaching of Collegiate Sailors from our partnering post-secondary collegiate sailing programs
• Coaching with our free Learn to Sail program for the military community
• Public education
• Coaches will also coach the sailing race team at local and out of town regattas, and shall create a “fun, safe and respectful” experience for all sailors.

Race Coach candidates will possess:
• Minimum CANSail 1/2 instructor certification
• Race coach experience
• Knowledge of the Racing Rules of Sailing
• Significant Racing Experience (including trapezing and spinnaker)
• Willingness to travel to out of town regattas
• Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills
• Police Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening

Sailing Instructor candidates will possess:
• Minimum CANSail 1/2 instructor certification
• Police Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening
Instructors are instrumental in the delivery of the youth sailing instruction through the Youth Summer Camps, and shall contribute to a “fun, safe and respectful” experience for all sailors.

Both Coaches and Instructors shall have:
• Experience working with youth
• Current Sail Canada registration
• Current Emergency First Aid and CPR
• Current Boat Rescue
• Current Pleasure Craft Operator Card
• Current Coach Boat Safety
• Current National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) modules
• Learning Facilitator certification is considered an asset
• Sail Canada Program Manager course completion is also considered an asset.
