General Manager – Kitsilano Yacht Club
Kitsilano Yacht Club has fostered amateur sailing and paddling in Vancouver since 1934. The club is home to many active one-design sailing fleets, including the Star, 5O5, Martin 242, Lightning, Cal 20, outrigger canoe, and SUP. The club is looking for a General Manager to run its day-to-day operations The General Manager reports to the club Commodore.
Monitor all club-owned boats and equipment
Onboard new club members
Plan and execute all social and sailing events, including multi-day regattas
Manage a database inventory of vessels on club property
Manage a database of all equipment, storage lockers, and club users
Manage club SharePoint-based documents system
Manage security access to the club
Ensure all club facilities are in a safe working order and there are no environmental hazards present
Maintain the club website
Send payroll, expense reports, and other financial information to the Treasurer
Bill members for various fees; collect and track payments
Manage all incoming mail, phone calls and emails for either immediate response or forwarding them to the appropriate board member.
Answer in-person inquiries during office hours
Experience managing a sailing club, marina, or similar operation
Experience in sailing and driving a small motorboat
Experience working in an environment where children are present
Experience in managing and coordinating events
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Excellent customer service and people skills
Excellent safety awareness and ‘safety-first’ attitude
Valid Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card (PCOC)
Legally allowed to work in Canada
Current Criminal History Check
first aid certificate with CPR – C AED
Knows how to swim
Terms of Employment:
March 1st, 2022, to October 31st, 2022, with an option to continue to November 30th, 2022; an option to return to same dates for 2023.
The position is five days a week, usually Wednesday to Sunday. Note that days of the week may change from week-to-week dependent on club activities.
During less busy months (March 1 to May 31 and October) overall hours of work may be less than 40 hours per week.
During the busy months (June 1 to September 30) hours of work will be 40 or more hours per week.
Overtime requires pre-authorization.
During the height of the summer sailing season (June 1st to September 30th) no vacation days will be allowed.
The position is on-site only (working from home is not available).
Wages are $25 to $30 per hour dependent on experience and qualifications.
