Summary:
The Adaptive Sailing program in Kelowna is offering summer employment for sailing instructors to work with some very special people in beautiful Kelowna, BC. You will spend most of your time SAILING with people on Okanagan Lake. We work with people with various challenges including visual impairments and other physical challenges as well as some cognitive challenges. We offer our sailors instruction, companionship, and meaningful opportunities. Our program utilizes a fleet of Martin 16 sailboats as well a motorized coach boat.
Responsibilities:
- Take sailors on their sailing sessions (recreational and/or instructional)
- Manage volunteers who take sailors sailing
- Prepare boat for client’s sail
- Manage client’s entry and exit from boat (ramp and hoist operations
- Manage boat entry and exit from shore
- Responsible for maintaining a safe, organized and clean DSA office and environment
- Assist with Safety Program implementation
- Provide recommendations for the development of the program
- Participate in staff meetings as requested
- Assist with orientation of volunteers
- Other duties as required
Pre-Requisites:
- Required
- Standard First Aid with CPR
- Pleasure Craft Operator Card (can be attained through us)
- Criminal Record Check
- Previous work or volunteer experience with vulnerable population
- Assets
- Sail Canada (or CYA) instructor/coach certification
- VHF Radio license
- Sail Racing experience
- Powerboat experience

For these programs, we utilize the Canada Summer Jobs Grant, which has specific qualifications regarding age (30 and under) and Citizenship (Canadian). We will give preference to a qualified candidate with a disability.
