RECERTIFY

Recertification for all CANSail instructors and coaches must be completed through BC Sailing. The certification period for CANSail dinghy instructors and coaches is 48 months to the end of the calendar year if the instructor has achieved Certified status. For example, if you completed your clinic in May 2020, your level would expire on December 31, 2024.

CANSail Evaluation & Recertification

CANSail Dinghy Instructor recertification is managed by the Provincial Sailing Associations in accordance with the process outlined by Sail Canada. Learning Facilitator and Evaluator recertification is managed by Sail Canada.

Only ‘certified’ CANSail Instructors, who have been valid within the last 10 years are eligible for recertification. Instructors who have lapsed for 10 years or longer are not eligible for recertification and are required to retake a full CANSail Instructor Training Clinic.

‘Trained’ CANSail Instructors who do not obtain ‘Certified’ status within two (2) years of being trained will lose their status and be required to retake a full CANSail Instructor Training Clinic.

Recertification Candidates must be successfully evaluated in the appropriate context on land & water instruction, professionalism, and safety by a CANSail Evaluator to recertify.

Here is how it works:

  • Please note that the evaluation will need to take place during a “live” water session with real athletes.
  • The Evaluation will take a minimum of 2 hours.
  • All instructors requesting an evaluation will need to pay the $100 Evaluation fee before BC Sailing will schedule an Evaluation.
  • Here is the link. https://www.gifttool.com/registrar/ShowEventDetails?ID=1409&EID=31508

We require Evaluation payment to be made before we make arrangements with a Learning Facilitator in your area. If you have any questions please email delani@bcsailing.bc.ca.
