MOSS Made Waves Across BC This Summer!
The Mobile Optimist Sailing School wrapped up another successful summer, introducing more than 95 young sailors to sailing in communities across BC. This year, our mobile program travelled to Fort St. James, Revelstoke, Nakusp and Osoyoos, bringing introductory sailing opportunities to communities where access to the sport can be limited.
It was a challenging summer, with wildfire activity, poor air quality and changing conditions affecting several of our camps. Our coaches and local hosts adapted throughout the season, working closely with families to keep participants safe while continuing to provide as much time on the water as conditions allowed. Through it all, nearly 100 young sailors had the chance to get in a boat, learn new skills and experience the excitement of sailing.
A special thank you goes to Sail Canada’s Sailing for All Grant, which supported the second week of our Fort St. James camp. This funding helped provide additional opportunities for local youth to get on the water and supported our continued work to make sailing more accessible across BC. Thank you to our incredible coaches, host communities, billets, volunteers, families and funding partners for helping make MOSS possible. We are proud of what the program accomplished this summer and look forward to getting back on the road in 2027!
