West Vancouver Yacht Club Hosts 2023 Canadian Opti National Championships!

The West Vancouver Yacht Club (WVYC) proudly and successfully hosted the 2023 Canadian Opti National Championships, bringing over 90 skilled sailors from across Canada representing their provinces and 14 yacht clubs.

 

This event highlighted Canada’s largest one-design fleet, nurturing young racers aged up to 15. Beyond competition, it forged lifelong friendships and shaped Team Canada representation (Opti Class) for 2024 global regattas. The week featured exciting fleet and team races, a scenic opening ceremony at Dundarave Beach, a regatta banquet, and a gratitude-filled closure, powered by 97 selfless volunteers who not only made this success story possible but also showcased WVYC as truly beautiful. The environment 100% fostered the growth of our sport and this was highlighted by two television news stories.
